Configure HESA

Configure HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) to enable the collection of data for HESA returns.

Before configuring HESA you must have the following:

  • An ebs account with administrative permissions for ebs: central.
  • The institution must have the EBS4HESAALT licence.
  • Staff members using the HESA functionality must have the appropriate roles.

Set up HESA by defining the required reference data and then importing the verifiers from HESA.

Reference Data

You must define the following reference data for HESA:

  • Address Types

  • UI Levels

  • HESA Verifiers

  • HESA Yearly Values

  • Progress Codes

  • Local reference data

Address Types

Set up the address type as follows:

  1. On ebs: central, go to System > Reference Data and select Address Types.

  2. Select Add a new record and then define a home address type, as shown in the table Home address type.

    Home address type
Code Short description Long description Active
    H Home Home/Permanent Address Yes

UI Levels

Set up UI levels as follows:

  1. On ebs: central, go to System > Reference Data and select UI Levels.

  2. Filter or search the list to display the UI Levels of interest.

  3. Then, select the required HESA Level from the drop-down list.

You should use HESA Level 1 for degree/instance information spanning several years, HESA Level 2 for the academic year UI, that is student instance period data.

Repeat steps 1 to 3 to update the required UI Levels. For example, the image below shows a course, programme, and module mapped to the relevant FES levels.
